Lots of Lovely Layers

Instead of going for that puffer vest this season try layering thin colorful fabrics to give depth to your outfit. A cami to start and will keep you warm. A button down under the sweater of your choice either a cardi or a pullover. Mix up the colors like green and pink. Both huge colors for the season or do monochromatic black or gray but don’t forget the colorful scarf around your neck. Don’t worry about how it’s tied as infinity scarves are in and all they are it s circle of fabric. And if you are wearing skirts and boots try a little leg color with hosiery or socks for a pop of color.

Color: Mix It Up

Another big trend again for fall is color blocking. This one just takes a little thought and opening the doors to your own closet. Black flats, white pants and a black top, instant fashion. And if you’re feeling more adventurous how about that green tee with navy slacks? Mix it up and have fun. Orange and pink anyone? Nothing like color on a dreary gray day to perk up your mood.  And if you aren’t sure stop by the paint section next time you’re in the DIY department and pull a couple of paint swatches for shade examples and put them together. Lavender and red? Absolutely.

How to Wear White After Labor Day

whiteUsed to be no white could be worn before Memorial Day or after Labor Day. That’s why the slightly creamy white you saw in winter was called “winter white.” Fortunately those rules don’t apply anymore. Try white jeans with black boots and a black sweater for cooler days. A white chunky sweater with a pencil skirt is a polished look for fall. And brides aren’t the only ones to wear all white. Monochromatic dressing is slimming in any color. Makes the wearer look longer and leaner. Or try a bright belt to break up the mono.

Soccer Mom Be Gone

Ladies, if you work from home, dress cute for yourself. No old black sweat pants washed to a dingy grey. Gym clothes are for the gym.

Try to upgrade your style with a bright t-shirt or sweater and pair a cute pair of ballet flats with stretchy chino’s or a nice fitting pair of dark wash jeans. If you must wear shorts, make them Bermuda’s that hit just below the knee… Capri pants are no one’s best friend, they cut off half your leg and make anyone wearing them look shorter and wider. It has to do with proportions.

Consider a cotton dress for spring in a colorful print or floral. They can be found in t-shirt material and it is as quick to pull over your head and dash out the door as sweats and you’ll look so much more put together.

Extend your a fashion favorite from summer into fall

Layers: Your summer staple Capri pants, darker colors are better, but khaki and cream will look fall fashion forward when worn with flat brown boots, and then topped with a long sweater or loose fitting jacket. If you belt the sweater or jacket in a rich leather or substantial textured fabric that also says autumn

To add a pop of color, add a scarf of chocolate, wine or green. But first get out there and enjoy the end of summer.

When did fur become fashionable again?

This is Fashion Week in New York and I have to say I am a bit surprised that there is a lot of fur being shown. Granted some of it is fake or faux on cuffs and vests, jackets and coats. That I understand. It’s kind of like wearing a teddy bear, soft cuddly and synthetic. A faux fur bear hug. But there is real fur out there. Where’s the anti-fur lobby? And most of the high end designer labels I read said the fur was from China. So we’ve depleted the animals in Europe and North America so now it’s open season in China? Maybe it’s because it’s rabbit and raccoon fur. Doubt they would be so willing to sell the West their fur if it was Giant Panda.

Trend. Singular.

Pick one trend and wear it as your statement or centerpiece for a look. If you have a bare sundress in a bright color you don’t need to add much. A pair of sandals and a stole. Or with a great cotton top with embellishments make the rest of your outfit is simple. If you want to wear a necklace with lots of chains accompany with simple earrings and maybe your hair brushed or pulled back. Chandelier earrings are great with a simple one strand necklace or scarf. You want to wear the trend not let the trend wear you.
